Olive Hummel

Olive I. Hummel, 94, of Lewistown died at 2:30 a.m. Satuday, May 20, 2006, at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton.

She was born March 3, 1912, in rural Lewistown, a daughter of Clarence and Myrtle Horton Owens. She married Frank H. Hummel on October 1, 1933, in Vermont. He died June 23, 2003.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters and two grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Richard (and DeEtt) of Lewistown and James (and Shirley) of Nebo, N.C.; one daughter, Janet (and Joseph) Stone of Lewistown; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was a lifetime bookkeeper, working for McDonough County Farm Bureau and family business enterprises.

She was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown for 80 years where she was a deaconess emeritus and had been board secretary and a member of the CWF and quilting group. She also was a member of the Gideon Auxiliary, Lewistown Alumni Association, 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Lewistown chapter and a 4-H leader for several years.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at her church with Rev. Ray Greenfield officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown. Henry-Lange Memorial Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to her church or the Lewistown Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
