Lloyd D. Hayes Sr., 82, of Lewistown died at 4:56 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton.

He was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Vermont, the son of Herbert and Frances Gallager Hayes. He married Audrey Stoker and Zelma Brant. They preceded him in death. He married Betty Jean Fanning on June 16, 1979. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Dayne of Bloomington; one daughter, Phyllis (and Raymond) Vidito of Enfield, Conn.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Loydetta Wilhelm.

He owned and operated Lewistown Maytag until 1974. He was the water superintendent for the city of Lewistown until 1983.

A World War II Navy veteran, he participated in the battle of Guam and Iwo Jima on LST 447 as an electrician's mate. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5001 and American Legion Post 1.

Services were held Friday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
