Russell W. Hoffer, 76, of Peoria, died at 5:38 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Methodist Medical Center.

He was born March 11, 1923, in Woodford County, a son of Joseph and Pearl Dickason Hoffer. He married Jean A. O’Connor on July 27, 1943, in St. Louis. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Dan (Bonnie) Heinz of Peoria, Mrs. Randy (Eileen) Rohman of Vermont and Mrs. Mike (Susan) Lawler Robison of Peoria; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Winkler of Morton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Russell J. Hoffer, one sister and one brother.

He was a farmer for several years and worked by N.E. Finch for 28 years. He retired as business agent and trustee from Teamster’s Local 627 in 1984. He owned Russ Hoffer Equipment Rental. He was a member of Teamsters Local 627 Retirees, the National Rifle Association and Hanna City Sportsmen’s Club. He served on the board of the Private Industry Council and also the United Way. A World War II Marine Corps veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 2. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, its Men’s Club and Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council 4333 Third Degree.

Services were held Saturday at his church with Franciscan Friars officiating. Burial was in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. Wright & Salmon Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
