Garland H. Hilton, 78, of Lewistown, died at 10:07 a.m. Monday, June 24, 1996, at the Prairieview Care Center in Lewistown, where he has been a patient since June 20, 1996.

He was born on Aug. 5, 1917 in Bernadotte Township, Fulton County, a son of Harley O. and Grace M. Kesler Hilton. He married Helen Finley at Peoria on Jan. 9, 1946. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Charles Hilton of Modoc; three daughters, Mrs. “Butch” (Eloise) Hertz and Mrs. Dale (Debbie) Cole, both of Lewistown and Carolyn Foster of Ipava; two brothers, Kenneth Hilton of Champaign and Raymond Hilton of Canton; two sisters, Maxine Miller and Mrs. Albert (Barbara) Rosich, both of Canton; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers.

He was a retired farmer and for the past 10 years both he and his wife have been resident managers at Broadway Arms in Lewistown. He served in the Army for seven years during WWII. He was a member of Lewistown VFW Post 5001.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Thursday morning at the Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown with a flag presentation by his VFW post.

Memorials may be made to the Spoon River Hospice of Graham Hospital or to the Prairieview Care Center.
