SID E. HAMMOND

Sid E. Hammond, 82, of Blandinsville, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 1995, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Jan. 6, 1913, in Prairie City, a son of Jerry and Ava Lyons Hammond.

Surviving are two sons, Michael Hammond of Table Grove and Robert Paul Hammond of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Marcia Chenoweth of Table Grove and Janet Walker of Marietta; one brother, Chuck Hammond of Augusta; and four sisters, Anna Parker of Bushnell, Bernice Yocum of Plymouth, Lulu Mae Ruark of Idaho and Frances McDaniels of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Phillips, and four brothers.

He worked as a logger in the timber business most of his life. For the last 10 years, he lived in Blandinsville and worked on the Marion Butler Farm. A World War II Army veteran, he served in combat in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of Bushnell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1422.

Graveside services, with burial of ashes, will be Saturday morning at Bushnell Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by his VFW Post. Cremation will be accorded. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell is in charge of arrangements.
