Chloe Hocker Dies At Age 97

Chloe Hocker, 97, a resident of LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville, formerly of Vermont, died at 5:10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 1988, at the nursing home.

She was born Dec. 25, 1890, in Schuyler County, a daughter of George and Melinda Renner Stone. She married Ernest France, who died in 1938. She married Clarence Smith on April 15, 1951. He died Jan. 21, 1961. She later married Walter Hocker, who died in 1984.

One son, one brother and one sister also preceded her in death.

She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Vera Markley of Yates City, Mrs. Jean Heavenridge of Henrico, N.C., Mrs. Dorothy Simpson of Macomb, Mrs. Ilene Rogers of Canton, Mrs. Wilma Bassett of Springfield and Mrs. Phyllis Martin of Vermont; two sons, Virgil France of Industry and Merle France of Tennessee, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Funeral services are to be at 2 p.m. this afternoon at the Kost Memorial Home in Vermont with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Burial will be in Vermont Cemetery.
