VeteranGeorge Hoener Dies June 24

George H. Hoener, 73, of Astoria, died suddenly about 4 p.m. Wednesday June 24, in a farm field near Ipava where he farmed. He was sitting in his truck when stricken; his death was attributed to a heart ailment.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Cookson Funeral Home in Plymouth with Rev. R. Wolford officiating. Burial was in the Mendon Cemetery.

Mr. Hoener was born Nov. 6, 1896, in Quincy, the son of Edwin and Ann Voth Hoener. He was reared near Quincy. He served four years in the U. S. Cavalry, including World War I service. He married Alice Ralf Sept. 7, 1921, in Aberdeen, S. D. He resided in South Dakota until 1927 when he moved to Illinois. He resided in the Mendon and Lorraine area until he moved to Plymouth in 1943. He moved to Astoria in 1967. He was a farmer all of his life.

He is survived by his wife; four children, John of Liberty, Lyle of Astoria, Robert of Plymouth, and Mrs. Joe (Florence) Helms of Augusta; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Rash of Quincy and Mrs. Eva Schuette of Moline and seven grandchildren.

Two brothers and a son died previously.
