WILLIAM H. HARSHMAN

Ex-Bradley Student’s Body Found In Road Ditch

The body of William H. Harshman, 42, former Bradley student, was discovered in a ditch near Peoria Saturday by a group of boys. He has been shot in the head and, police said, appeared to have been dead several weeks.

Jim Lewis, who lives in a house near the spot where the body was found, said he heard three shots fired in that area about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 27. He was retiring for the night, he said, and on hearing the second shot, dressed hurriedly and ran outside. A third shot was fired as he ran out. He said he saw a 1937 or 1938 dark sedan drive away from the point where the shots came from.

Harshman last was seen Oct. 23 at work in a Peoria cafeteria.
