Mrs. Hartley Gone To Rest After Long Illness

Mrs. Matilda B. Hartley died at her home in Astoria, Tuesday noon after an illness of a long duration. She was aged 77 years.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock at her late residence, conducted by Rev. Jacob Miller. Interment in the Astoria cemetery.

Obituary of Mrs. Hartley

Matilda Beck, daughter of Susan Stone and George Beck, was born on June 3, 1853, near Westminister, Maryland. In early childhood she came west with her parents, settling in Illinois in the vicinity of Astoria, where she lived continuously until death.

On October 3, 1872 she was united in marriage to Eli Hartley. To this union nine children were born, eight of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Mary Stambaugh of Rushville, Mrs. Ada Stambaugh of Conway Springs, Kansas, Mrs. S. M. Etter of Astoria, H. O. of Galesburg, Mrs. Berta Pile of Ozark, Mo., George B. of Astoria, Roy E. of Beardstown and Mrs. Lucy Van Antwerp of Galesburg. A daughter, Rosalee died in infancy. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In young womanhood she united with the church of her choosing and lived a faithful, devoted, consecrated religious life.

After an illness of several weeks she passed away on July 29, 1930. The funeral services were held from the home in Astoria on Thursday, July 31st, with burial in the Astoria cemetery beside her husband, who preceded her in death on November 21st, 1918.
