Former Astorian Dies At Age 83 In Denver, Colo.

Barton Alonzo Hopkins, a brother of Mrs. Elvira McClelland of La Porte, Indiana, died in Denver, Colo., Jan. 9, aged 83 years, following a seventeen-month illness.

Mr. Hopkins was born in Astoria. As a lad he listened to Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas discuss their campaigns for the presidency.

In 1871, Hopkins moved to Georgetown, Colo., where he engaged in mining. He moved to Denver in 1892 where he become interested in city politics.

Hopkins is survived by his widow, three sons and his sister, Mrs. Elvira McClelland of La Porte, Ind.
