Dr. E. B. Hughes

IPAVA — Dr. E. B. Hughes, medical practitioner in Canton for many years, died in Ipava Friday morning at 9 o’clock, at the home of his sister, Mrs. James Lindsey, where he was brought 10 days ago from Canton. His condition for several years had been declining, largely due to advanced age. For several weeks past his condition had been critical, and it was thought best to bring him here for treatment. Dr. Hughes attended Hedding College and the Keokuk Medical college. He was born near Cuba, July 25, 1840. He had lived at Bernadotte, Ipava, Smithfield and Canton. The decedent was a son of George W. and Margaret Boylan Hughes. The father served in the Civil war as a cavalry captain. Dr. Hughes was married in Bernadotte, Aug. 25, 1869 to Augenette Tuthill, who was a native of Rochester, N. Y. One son, Claude David Hughes, is living. Mrs. Hughes died July 10, 1890.
