AGNES (SERFF) HEATH

A Sudden Death

Mrs. Frank Heath Found In An Unconscious State, Tuesday Afternoon, By Her Husband; Died An Hour Later

Our city was again saddened on Tuesday, when it was learned that Mrs. Agnes Heath, wife of Frank Heath, a prominent farmer residing three miles west of Astoria, had died suddenly, shortly after the noon hour. Death was due to apoplexy.

Mr. Heath and family were making preparations to move to the Preston Prather farm, which they had recently purchased, a distance of about a mile and a half from where they now live. Their furniture, etc., were all packed and it was their intention to move today.

Mr. Heath and his oldest son, Willis had made two trips in the forenoon to their new home with goods, returning from their last load at about 1:30 o’clock. After feeding the stock, Mr. Heath went into the house and found his wife sitting in a rocking chair at the end of a table, with her head resting upon the table, one hand in her lap and the other hanging at her side. Mr. Heath spoke to her, but got no reply. She was breathing, but he found she was unconscious. He tried to revive her, but his efforts proved futile.

He put in a telephone call for Drs. Bettorf and H. T. Baxter, after which he called in neighbors.

The physicians arrived, but nothing could be done. She quietly passed away at about 3 o’clock of the same day, without regaining consciousness.

Mr. Heath is of the opinion that his wife had suffered the stroke about two hours previous to his finding her. He finds that she talked over the telephone to Mrs. Wm. Dean, a neighbor at about 10 o’clock that morning and that she was apparently all right at that time. The fires in the stoves, he stated, were out when he came in.

Mr. Heath says that his wife has not enjoyed good health since she had the influenza, about two months ago.

Mrs. Agnes Heath was the daughter of the late John Serff, who met his death in a runaway, a year or so ago. She was born March 25th, 1875, making her aged 43 years, 10 months and 3 days.

She was united in marriage to Frank Heath, Jan. 25, 1899 and to them were born five children, namely, Willis, aged 17 years, Olive, aged 15, Opal aged 13, Gerry, aged 12 and Ruby, aged 10.

Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her untimely death, one brother, Sherman Serff, of Peoria, a step-mother, Mrs. John Serff and one half sister, Mrs. Orlie Prather.

As we go to press no arrangements have been made for the funeral.
