MARY E. (WILSON) HANNAMAN

Killed By Interurban.

Stepping from a rapidly moving interurban car near the corner of Main and Locust streets at Canton Thursday evening, Mrs. Mary Hannaman, who had rooms at the Zeigler boarding house, was dashed to the pavement, sustained a fracture of the skull and other injuries, from the effects of which she died at 11:00 o’clock Thursday night at the Graham hospital.

J. G. Walz, the popcorn vendor, in attempting to save Mrs. Hannaman from falling as she stepped from the car, was dragged off with her, sustaining a dislocation of his right shoulder and severe bruises by which he is confined to his home.

The accident occurred a few minutes after 5 o’clock, as the car due to leave Canton at 5 o’clock was speeding northward. The car had come from St. David and Mrs. Hannaman and her sister, Mrs. Laura Post, had passed the afternoon at the home of Mrs. Samuel Ray, in Buckheart township, and boarded the car near there to return to Canton. Just after getting on the car which was in charge of Conductor Noah Kingery and Motorman Oscar Olson, Mrs. Post says she informed the conductor that she would get off at Oak street, and her sister told him that she wanted to leave the car at the corner of Main and Locust streets. Mrs. Post left the car at Oak street, and proceeded to her home and Mrs. Hannaman remained on the car.
