VeteranAnanias Haffner Dead.

Ananias Haffner died at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Groves, in this city, Monday aged 68 years, 3 months and four days.

Mr. Haffner has been in poor health for some time.

The funeral was held Wednesday from the U. B. church, Rev. Ella Niswonger conducting the services.

Burial at the Astoria cemetery.

Obituary.

Ananias D. Haffner, son of Jacob and Susanna Haffner, was born in Buckingham Co., Virginia, Sept. 10, 1842. Died, at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Grove in Astoria, Ill., Nov. 14, 1910, aged 68 years, 2 months and 4 days.

At the age of 12 he came with his parents and their family from Virginia, to a farm near Astoria, Ill.

He professed conversion when a young man and has since endeavored to lead a christian life.

At the age of 22 he enlisted and went to the Civil war; he served his country as a soldier for 7 months at that time the war closed.

He made his home with his parents, then he made his home with his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Grove, on a farm two and one half miles east of town, now occupied by Mr. Amos Foster. He, with Mr. and Mrs. J. Grove moved from said farm into town in September 1900, where he has since lived.

The deceased was next to the youngest of a family of thirteen children. His parents, five brothers, and 3 sisters preceded him in death. The living brothers and sisters are Andrew Haffner, Bessemer, Alabama, Wm. Haffner, of Superior, Nebraska, Mrs. John Grove, of Astoria, Ill., Mrs. Susan Butler and Mrs. Dianna Jones, of New Philadelphia, Ill.

He was stricken with paralysis Thursday, Nov. 3rd, his right side being paralyzed. He was sick 11 days. During his sickness he testified that his faith was in God. He lived a quiet harmless life.

The funeral services were held in the United Brethren church, of this city, Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 2 o’clock. The services were conducted by the pastor. Interment was made in the Astoria cemetery.
