MARY T. (BADER) HOPKINS

Mary T. Hopkins.

The above named died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Windherst, Saturday June 23, 1900 at 11;48 p.m., at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 5 days.

Deceased was born in Preble Co., Ohio, Sept. 18, 1824, and with her parents came to this state about 1844. Her maiden name was Mary T. Bader. She was married April 4, 1847 to Lemuel Hopkins who passed to the better land May 4, 1870. To this union eight children were born, five boys and three girls, all of whom lived to man and womanhood; one daughter dying after womanhood was reached. The remaining children are: William C., Philip, Roy and Harvey of Sni Carte, Mrs. Parrine of Chandlersville, Henry and Mrs. J. H. Windherst living here, who, with many other relatives and friends, mourn her death.

She was taken ill August 30, 1899, at the home of her son in Sni Carte, with a complication of diseases adherent to old age. Having slightly improved, on Nov. 1st, she was removed to the home of her daughter in this place, where she remained, until death claimed her. All through her long sickness she was a most patient sufferer, never murmuring or complaining and always endeavoring to cheer those who so tenderly cared for her. She was united with the Christian church in Browning in 1864, living a true christian life ever afterward.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church Monday, June 25, 1900, at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. D. E. Hughes, of Monmouth, after which the remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Astoria cemetery.

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our homes,
Which never can be filled.
