SARAH (DENNIS) HORTON

Obituary.

Died, at the home of her son, T. J. Horton, in Woodland township, Mrs. Sarah Horton, aged seventy-nine years, eight months and fourteen days.

Sarah Dennis was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, June 27th, 1814 and died at the home of her son, T. J. Horton in Woodland township, March 13, 1894.

At an early age she moved with her parents from Pennsylvania to Ohio, settling in Knox county. On 1833 she was united in marriage to William Horton. To this union twelve children were born of whom the following survive the mother. A. J. Horton, Woodland; G. W. Horton, Astoria; Mrs. E. J. Hammell, Morgan county; T. J. Horton, Woodland; Mrs. Louise Shawgo, Washington; Mrs. Sarah Severns, Macomb; Abe Horton, Woodland; Mrs. Polly Angelo, Morgan county and Mrs. Alvilda Roach, Tennessee, Ill. Of her descendants living besides the children there are forty-seven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

In 1853 with her husband and family she emigrated to Illinois, settling in Fulton county where she resided until death.

Since the death of her husband thirteen years ago, she has made her home with her son, T. J. In the winter of 1851 she joined the Baptist church at Jefferson, Ohio, and after moving to Illinois she identified herself with the Congregational church at Mt. Zion and remained a member until the time of her death.

The funeral was held at the residence of her son Wednesday, March 14, 1894, after which the remains were laid to rest beside her husband in Sixteen cemetery.
