WILLIAM TAYLOR HUGHES

Obituary.

William Taylor Hughes was born in Holmes Co., Ohio, June 20, 1824. When about sixteen years of age he came with his parents to Illinois, and with them settled in Woodland tp., Fulton county, where he lived to the time of his death which occurred Nov. 20, 1891; his age being 67 years and five months. July 16, 1846 he was married to Miss Anna Anderson, who departed this life Dec. 26, 1880. To them were born four children, three of whom are still living to mourn their loss. August 18, 1881 he married Miss Melissa Jane Aten, who still survives him. About forty-two years ago, he professed faith in Christ, and took upon himself the obligations of a christian life, by united with the M. E. church, since which time, he has lived a life of faith and hope, in a blessed immortality beyond the grave. A man of few words unassuming, modest, and retiring by nature, only those words most intimately associated with him in every day life, could fully appreciate the quiet unostentatious manner, in which he tried to follow the footsteps of his Master; or enter into full sympathy with that spirit, of tender, confiding trust with which he relied on the precious promises of Him, who has said, “Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, ye may be also.” His last words were, “Meet me in heaven.” — E. A. B.
