Vernon GreeneRetired Colonel Vernon F. Greene, U.S.A.F., 101, of Belleville died at 11:45 a.m. March 8, 2021, at his home.

He was born Oct. 22, 1919, in Camden, the son of Glenn Augustus and Esther Regina Rang Green. He married M. Pauline McClelland in Palmyra, Mo., in 1940. She preceded him in death in 1975. He later married Barbara Rampley in West Point in 1975. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy (and Calvin) Malcor of Medford, Ore., and Sarah (and Robert) Jensen of Belmont, Mass.; two sons, Phillip (and Linda) Greene of Kauai, Hawaii, and William (and Mary) Greene of Owatonna, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Rose Groen.

A graduate of Rushville High School Class of 1938, Colonel Greene retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1974 after proudly serving for 32 years. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After his retirement, he volunteered in his church community at Cornerstone Christian Church in Shiloh.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 22, at the Rushville City Cemetery with Pastor Rich Bersett officiating. Burial will follow with military honors by the Scott Air Force Base Honors Detail and the Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Masks are encouraged. The Wood Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
