Paul GreenePaul Sidney Greene, 94, of East Lynn/Hoopeston died Feb. 27, 2019.

He was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Washington, Ind., a son of David Hershel and Consuella Venus Morris Greene. He married Cynthia Ann Winslow on Oct. 12, 1947, in Fairmount, Ind., on the Winslow family farm. She preceded him in death.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Morris, Ralph and Bill.

Surviving are one sister, Betty Meyer; five children, Rev. Robert (Sue-deceased, Maureen) Greene of Vermont, Marilyn (and Lester) Maul of Rankin, David (and Cheryl) Greene of Temple Terrace Fla., Rex (and Rhoda) Greene of Watseka and Susan Hoffman of Longview, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Paul and Cynthia began their lives together in Washington, Ind., then moved in 1949 to the family farm in East Lynn, where they raised their five children.

In the 60s he purchased the blacksmith shop in East Lynn and started Greene Welding and Hardware. When the East Lynn School closed in the 70s, Paul purchased the school grounds to move his expanding business. The business designed and began to manufacture the bin stairs in 1976 and has expanded the grain bin safety equipment line which is sold throughout the world. He was forced into retirement at age 70 with a stroke. Reluctantly, he turned his beloved business over to his son, Rex, to continue his legacy.

After retirement, he stayed involved in the business. His primary concern was taking care of Cynthia, who was afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis.

Throughout the years, he was an active member at both East Lynn United Methodist Church and Hoopeston United Methodist Church, a volunteer fireman in East Lynn and a member of Gideons International.

The funeral service was held Monday at Anderson Funeral Home in Hoopeston with Rev. Larry Houseman officiating. Burial was in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
