Norma GibsonNorma J. Gibson, 73, of Rushville, died at 2:55 a.m. July 5, 2009, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

She was born April 21, 1936, in Clinton, a daughter of John R. and Lela F. Geer Cartmill. She first married Andrew Morse in June 1953 in Clinton. She later married John Gibson on Sept. 2, 1966, in Clinton. He died April 2, 2003.

She also was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter.

Surviving are four daughters, Deborah (and James) Tippey of St. Ann, Mo., Cynthia (and Charles) Tyson of Oklahoma City, Okla., Rebekah (and John) Dorn of Hilbert, Wis., and Jennifer (and Joe) Burch of Shirley, Ark.; 16 grandchildren including Kyle Gibson, who she raised; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She first worked as a key punch operator for General Telephone in Bloomington for many years. She then worked as a realtor in Greer’s Ferry, Ark. She last worked as a receptionist at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville until the fall of 2008.

She attended Rushville Free Methodist Church and was a member of Optimist International.

Services will be held Saturday at her church with Rev. Rosalee Ross officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at McCord Cemetery in Farmer City with Jim Tippey officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.

Memorials may be given to the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
