Alice GladwellAlice M. Gladwell, 80, of Rushville, formerly of Beardstown, died at 7:40 a.m. June 28, 2009, at Snyder’s Vaugh-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

She was born July 14, 1928, in Camden, a daughter of William Henry and Mary L. Knouse Masters. She first married John Kuzma in September, 1943. She later married Dave Grant Gladwell on Oct. 18, 1947, in Beardstown. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1983.

Surviving are one son, William David Glaswell of Hillsdale; three daughters, Mary Alice (and Louie) Bedenbender of Rushville, Rebecca Kimmer of Clinton, Iowa, and Edith Diana Roby of Rushville; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren; and her companion and friend Charlie McMurl of Beardstown.

She was preceded in death by one son, Roger Wayne Gladwell; one granddaughter, Amanda McNeff; one great-grandson, Christopher Thompson; two brothers, Howard and Harold LaMasters; and one sister, Barbara Ackley.

She was a homemaker and a member of Beardstown VFW Auxiliary.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Following the visitation, cremation rites have been accorded and graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Messerer Cemetery near Fredrick with Rev. Rose Ross officiating.

Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospital Cancer Center in Quincy or Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.
