VeteranJames Gant

James Russell Gant, 74, of Griggsville died at 12:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at Heritage Manor East Nursing Center in Beardstown.

He was born Sept. 15, 1931, in Bellview, the son of Ralph O. and Lucille Martin. He married Rita Kay Harris on July 20, 1984, in Quincy. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Linda (and Stanley) Stambaugh of Browning; one brother, Curt (and Judy) Gant of Meredosia; one sister, Rosalee (and Dale) McDannold of Meredosia; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Kathleen, in infancy.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954 and was wounded in the Korean War.

He was a machinist for Electric Wheel.

Services were held Sunday at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Pastor Kenneth Sanders officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Blessing Cancer Center in Quincy.
