William Joseph “Joe” Garrett, 63, of Prairie City, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at his residence in Prairie City.

He was born Oct. 14, 1933, in Piedmont, Mo., to Clorel and Delia (Leach) Garrett. He married Wilma Dildine on Oct. 13, 1957 in Table Grove. She survives in Prairie City.

He is also survived by three sons, Martin Garrett of Ellisville, Billy Garrett of Phoenix, Ariz., and James Henry Garrett of Monmouth; one daughter, Lea Clutterbuck of Dudley, N.C.; seven grandchildren; five brothers, Clorel Garrett Jr., of Piedmont, Mo., Donald Garrett of Wolf Creek, Mont., Kenneth Garrett of Avon, Jack Garrett and Charles Garrett, both of Bushnell; and one sister, Ivalee Mitchell of St. Louis, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Garrett was born and raised in Piedmont, Mo., moving to Prairie City in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1950s. He was employed by Vaughn’s Manufacturing in Bushnell. He had lived most of his lilfe in the Prairie City area.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Corman Memorial Home in Avon with Rev. Dean Arneson officiating. Burial was in the Prairie City Cemetery in Prairie City.
