Ross O. Gibboney, 66, of Smithfield, died at 6:16 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 1990, in the emergency room at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born July 19, 1923, in Table Grove, the son of Lyman and Pearl (Calhoun) Gibboney. He married Crystal Stewart on May 17, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother of Bushnell; one son, Norman Gibboney of Astoria; one daughter, Mrs. Zelda Lasswell of rural Smithfield; four grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Donna McCoy of Macomb.

He was the owner of Gibboney Excavating Company in Smithfield and operated the Smithfield Gas Station for nine years, and had retired from both. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the Bushnell Christian Church, and a former member of the Bushnell Odd Fellow Lodge. He was also a member of the Ipava American Legion and the Bushnell Model Airplane Club.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hukill-Henry Memorial Home in Cuba with Rev. Layton Malone officiating. Burial was in Baughman Cemetery in rural Smithfield with military graveside services conducted by the Ipava American Legion.
