Robert C. Bowman Arrested For Fatal Stabbing

A Vermont man was charged July 18 with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing Thursday night of a Kilbourne, Ill. man.

Robert C. Bowman, 38, of Vermont, was arrested about 10:20 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion Hall in Vermont for the alleged murder of Howard Griffin, 40, of Kilbourne.

Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene about 9:15 p.m. Thursday at the residence of his brother, Mason County authorities said.

Bowman appeared in Eighth Judicial Circuit court to hear formal charges and have bond set.

He was taken into custody by Fulton County and Vermont authorities, the Mason County sheriff’s office reported. He was returned to Mason County where he remains in county jail.

Griffin and Bowman had been together at the residence of Griffin’s brother, James, two miles northeast of Kilbourne, police said. Witnesses said the two men were drinking and arguing before the stabbing occurred.
