MARY (HOLMES) GIBBS
CATHARINE ELIZABETH GIBBS

Mrs. James Gibbs

IPAVA — Ipava was greatly saddened when the news was received that Mrs. James Gibbs had passed away at the St. Francis hospital, Evanston, Illinois on Sunday, Aug. 29 after a serious illness which commenced on Friday morning. On Sunday morning a little daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs but the little one was dead. The little mother never regained consciousness, but passed out with the little daughter for whom she gave her life. Mary Holmes was born in Fairfield, Neb., Dec. 27, 1888 and was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Holmes. She attended the Ipava schools and graduated in the class of 1906. She was a very successful teacher and taught in the Norris, Ipava and Canton schools and was in demand. On May 25, 1919, in Canton she was united in marriage with Mr. James Gibbs, and theirs was an ideally happy married life. Mr. Gibbs is auditor of the International Harvester Co., and when they were first married they made their home in Minneapolis, later moving to Chicago where they were living at the time of her death. Besides her heartbroken husband she leaves her grief-stricken parents, who mourn for the firstborn because she is not here, and one brother, John Holmes who lives near Ipava and one sister Miss Helen Holmes. The body was brot to Ipava on the midnight train Monday evening and taken to her beloved home where on Tuesday afternoon impressive funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. V. Kearns of Canton. In the casket by her side lay her baby, little Catharine Elizabeth. The services were beautiful. She is gone but her memory will linger for a long time. The interment was in the Ipava cemetery.
