He was born Dec. 2, 1956, in Jacksonville, a son of Alice Jane Albright Freesen and Oscar Robert Freesen Jr. He married Susan Whitteberry at Park Street Church in June of 1980. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Rebecah (and Rory) Hatchel, Bethany (and Neshawn) Jubile, Lydia (and Anthony) Robertson and Jona Van (and Elizabeth) Freesen; his father, Oscar Robert (and Deborah) Freesen II; three brothers, Oscar Robert (and Dawn) Freesen III, Kerry (and Cathy) Freesen and Matthew (and Cathy) Freesen; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1975, and from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in 1985 with a Master of Divinity.
He was a pastor in the United Methodist Church, first in Augusta and Huntsville and then in Astoria and Sheldons Grove.
He returned to Jacksonville in 1989 and was selected to become the interim pastor at Northminster Presbyterian Church. He was coach for track and cross country at Illinois College.
Services were held June 27 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville was in charge of arrangements.
