Alva FitzjarraldAlva Eugene Fitzjarrald, 93, of Rushville died at 11:10 p.m. Oct. 12, 2011, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born March 9, 1918, in Ada, Minn., a son of Ernest and Anna Mae Roberts Fitzjarrald. He married Charlene Ritchey on Dec. 29, 1947, in Chicago. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2001.

Also preceding him in death were one son, Randy Lee Fitzjarrald; three brothers, Homer, Leeford and Warren Fitzjarrald; and one grandchild, Chris McDaniel.

Surviving are one son, Tim (and Sheila) Fitzjarrald of Augusta; three daughters, Rita (and Dave) McDaniel of Quincy, Sue Fitzjarrald of Camden and Gwen Paschall of Rushville; one brother, Ernie (and Marsha) Fitzjarrald of Augusta; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was an Army veteran serving during World War II in the South Pacific.

He worked at Bartlow Brothers Meat Packing in Rushville. He was a life-long farmer until retiring in 1998.

He was a member of Bethany Bible Church near Camden, Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and National Rifle Association.

Services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Joyce Farwell officiating. Burial followed in Rushville City Cemetery with military rites by a U.S. Army Honor Detail and American Legion Post #4.
