She was born June 8, 1926, in Oakland Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of Karl R. and Bertha M. Green Wells. She married Ivan Fitzsimmons on June 18, 1955, in Rushville. He died Jan. 14, 2001.
Also preceding her in death was one brother, William Wayne Wells.
Surviving are one niece, Ione Wells of Rushville; one nephew, Aaron Wells of Mount Morris; and several cousins.
She received her teaching degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb. She taught in the Schuyler County school system many years, retiring in May 1985.
She was a lifelong member of Houston United Methodist Church. She was a member of Schuyler-Brown Retired Teachers Association, Rushville Business and Professional Women's Club, Schuyler County Women's Club and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Theta Chapter.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at her church with Rev. Dixie Croxton officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery.
