William L. Fray, 75, of Astoria died at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 1996, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Nov. 23, 1920, in Mulberry, Kan., the son of Edgar and Margaret Reed Fray. He married Helen Tadejevic on Aug. 14, 1941, in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Joyce) Batterton of Canton; one son, James F. Fray of Pana; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was a coal miner in various mines for more than 40 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Retired Mine Workers of America. A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Robert Reynolds officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Canton.
