Donald Fayhee

Donald Fayhee, 81, of Monmouth, formerly of Prairie City, died at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 1995, at his home.

He was born July 30, 1913, in Bernadotte Township, a son of John and Maurine Clanin Fayhee. He married Bernice Poling on Oct. 24, 1936 in Knoxville. She died July 16, 1972. He later married Alice Chatterton Buck in 1973. She died Jan. 1, 1983. He later married Lila Jean Lozier on July 14, 1984. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Mary Ellen Wright of Prairie City; two stepsons, John Lozier of Monmouth and Gene Lozier of Kirkwood; three stepdaughters, Janet Paris of Kirkwood, Janet Melvin of Macomb and Cindy Trainor of Springfield; three grandsons, Christopher Wright of Galesburg and Derek Wright and Damon Wright, both of Prairie City; two great-grandsons, Jacob Wright and Adam Wright, both of Prairie City; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Doyle Fayhee of Smithfield and Paul Fayhee of Little Swan Lake; two sisters, Eloise Coultas of Canton and Mary Askins of Prairie City; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Wayne Fayhee and one infant daughter, Janice Lynn Fayhee.

He attended school in Ipava and later graduated from Farmington High School. He moved to Prairie City in 1941, where he and his father established Fayhee Implement Company. His brothers joined the firm after the close of World War II. He retired from the Prairie City firm and started another implement business, Short Lines Sales, Inc. in Monmouth. He was instrumental in building the Prairie City Nursing Center and served on the board for several years. He also served on the Avon Nursing Home Board and was a trustee on the Prairie City Village Board. As a board member, he helped develop the city’s first water system. He participated in constructing the Prairie City Airport and aided in the development of the fire department in Prairie City. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bushnell and the Presbyterian Church of Prairie City.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Corman Memorial Home in Avon with Rev. David Kurt and Rev. Stephen Storm officiating. Burial was in the Prairie City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to his church or to the Prairie City Nursing Center.
