Charles Furnace Dies In Canton Hospital

Charles Furnace, well known in this vicinity in which he spent most of his life, died June 30th in the Graham Hospital, Canton.

He was born Dec. 9, 1876 on the Furnace homestead 3 miles southwest of Astoria, a son of Smith and Susan Sayer Furnace. He never married and lived alone.

The deceased was a member of the Oak Grove church and served as janitor, and was caretaker of the nearby cemetery for a number of years.

He is survived by one sister, Cora Furnace of Lincoln, Ill., and a nephew, Clarence Furnace of Astoria, and a niece, Mrs. Ira Riebling of Macomb.

Funeral services were held at the Astoria Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. Fred Thompson, assisted by Rev. H. D. Simmons. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery.
