ELLEN (SCHISLER) FLICKINGER

Former Astoria Woman Dies

Mrs. Ellen Flickinger Passed Away At Her Home At Boardman, Ore.

Ellen Schisler Flickinger was born in Astoria, Sept. 26, 1869. She was of Pennsylvania Dutch descent, a member of a family of eight children of John and Matilda Schisler. All grew to maturity except one brother, who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband, M. K. Flickinger, one older brother, H. F. Schisler of Astoria, and one younger sister, Mrs. Mary M. Messenger of Boardman, Oregon.

During her active life she excelled in everything she did. She loved to write poems that were much enjoyed by her friends and neighbors. She was known as Boardman’s flower-woman, and no one having visited her left her home without flowers, bulbs or plants. Mrs. Flickinger was sympathetic and loving, generous and kind. About 49 years ago she and her sister, Mary, and cousin, Elizabeth Cook, united with the Brethren church during a revival conducted by Rev. S. H. Bashor. She remained faithful to the church and always assisted in its activities in any way she could.

Twenty-three years she was united in marriage with M. K. Flickinger in Vancouver, Wash. Since then she resided in Boardman, Ore. She departed this life Sunday morning, June 15th at 8:20.

The funeral was preached by Rev. J. K. Walpole. Interment was in the Boardman cemetery.
