HERBERT RUSSELL FUSON

Youngest Son Of Dr. A. A. Fuson And Wife Passed Away

Herbert Russell Fuson, youngest son of Dr. A. A. and Elva Bear Fuson, was born in Hingham, Montana, March 22, 1918. He came with his mother to Summum in the spring of 1919, Dr. Fuson having established a medical practice in Summum in the fall of 1918, before he was called for service in the World War.

Here Russell, as he was familiarly known, grew from babyhood to a robust boyhood. Here he attended school and Sunday school and with the family united with the church about two years ago.

He was a real boy and found joy in all the common sports of boyhood, but was particularly fond of the water and swimming. There was a winsomeness about him that instinctively drew to him all whom he chanced to meet. His language, his thoughts and his life were wholesome, clean and pure. There was nothing coarse or rude or ungentlemanly in his make up. To know him was to love him. He was fond of his friends and in visiting them he always multiplied his friendships.

But just as every rose has its thorn so the promise of his sweet boyish life was destined to disappoint those who knew and loved him best. For a couple of years Russell had been troubled with rheumatism at different times. But with his father’s care and unusual strength of body it was hoped he would overcome its effects. But contrarywise he grew worse. Three weeks ago his mother took him to St. Joseph, Mo., to see a specialist, who advised complete rest as his only means of recovery. She brought him home and everything that was possible to do was done to help him. But the tides were contrary and they feared a losing fight even before the inevitable was apparent.

Friday morning about 11 o’clock, with all of his faculties active, thanking the neighbors for flowers sent, and thinking of the comforts of others, he closed his eyes and slept the final sleep that released the spirit from the little prison house in which he had suffered so much pain.

Funeral services were held at the Summum Christian church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, conducted by the pastor W. T. Nichols. Interment at the Summum cemetery.
