He was born Jan. 26, 1940, in Aurora, a son of Everett LeRoy and Trevilla Muriel Hartwig Engel. He married Barbara J. Davis on Jan. 29, 1972, in Aurora. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Scott (and Karen) Engel of Table Grove and Timothy (and Michelle) Engel of Ipava; one daughter, Cindy (and Michael) Yazvec of Table Grove; one stepdaughter, Pamela Zuspann of Chicago; one sister, Cheryl (and Jim) Henderson of Montgomery; one brother, Dennis Engel of Aurora; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Aurora for 30 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of United Auto Workers #145 in Montgomery.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour in 2007.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Bible Church in Astoria with Pastor Gary Schultz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery.
