Lucie EvensLucie Ann Cook Evens, 61, of Flushing, N.Y., formerly of Table Grove, died Jan. 19, 2011, in New York City.

She was born Sept. 28, 1949, in Pittsfield, a daughter of Walter O. and Eloise Fulmer Cook. She married Mark Evens on Aug. 18, 1974, in Swan Lake, N.Y. He survives.

Also surviving are one sister, Mary (and Mike) Lonergan of Jacksonville; two daughters, Sarah Evens of Queens, N.Y., and Emily (and Tom) Moughan of Rochester, N.Y.; one son, Joshua Evens of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James Cook and Robert Batley.

She was a graduate of VIT High School and attended Murray State University in Murray, Ky.

She finished her education in New York City, receiving a bachelor of fine arts degree in vocal music from New York University and a masters degree in environmental sciences from Queens College. She taught music and was choral director at PS 164 in Flushing, N.Y., for over 20 years.

She was an active member of NYU Alumni Chorus; Music Educators Association of New York City; and she founded and directed Maritime College Chorale at Maritime Academy in the Bronx.

She received many accolades as director of the PS 164 Glee Club, America Sings and the Peace Chorus.

Services were held Feb. 5 in Colden Auditorium at Queens College. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or to American Cancer Society.
