KATHRYN IRENE (LaPLANTE) EVANS

Kathryn Evans

Kathryn Irene Evans, 30, of Antioch, formerly of Astoria, died June 23, 2007, in Romania.

She was born Oct. 27, 1976, in Lake County, a daughter of Gregory and Judith Garwood LaPlante. She married John Evans on May 8, 2004, in Hobart, Ind. He survives.

Also surviving are her mother, Judy (and John) Shaffer of Lake Villa; her father, Gregory (and Beth) LaPlante of St. Anne; maternal grandmother, Kathryn Garwood of Antioch; one brother, Edward (and Beth) LaPlante of Carmel, Ind.; and one sister, Michelle (and Duaine) Yearout of Kenosha, Wisc.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard.

She attended Grass Lake School in Antioch and Astoria Grade School in Astoria and graduated from Emmons Grade School and Antioch High School in 1994. She earned her bachelors degree from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn., in 1998 and a masters degree in public health from Florida International University in North Miami, Fla., in 2006.

She served as a Peace Corps volunteer from 2000 to 2002 in Bangladesh; and was employed by Greater Chicago Food Depository as coordinator of volunteer services from 2002 to 2004; and in Romania as project manager for International Orthodox Christian Charities USAID funded project, “Strengthening Community-based Initiatives on HIV/AIDS and Family Violence in Romania” from April 2006 until her death.

Services with Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at St. Peter Church in Antioch.
