D’Arcy Hunter Ewing, 75, of Monmouth, died at 3:14 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 1995, at Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

He was born Dec. 1, 1920, in Astoria, a son of Vern Clyde and Lela Hunter Ewing. He married Shirley Jean Spicer on Nov. 7, 1940, in Burlington, Iowa. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Rick Ewing and Jeff Ewing, both of Monmouth; three sisters, Greta Mayhew of East Moline, Quinta Yearkan of Lynnwood, Wash., and Eula Anderson of Morton; three grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

He worked at Western Stoneware, where he served as union president for six years. He later worked for Harry Foust and for Bob Trimble building contractors. He then worked out of the Union Hall in the Quad Cities for many years. He last was a self-employed contractor for four years before retiring. He served in the Civil Conservation Corps and in the National Guard with the 123rd Field Artillery from April 8, 1937 to Sept. 30, 1937. He then was a corporal in the Army during World War II. He served with Patton’s Third Army in the battles of Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a life member of J. W. Clendinin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2301 and was a 50-year member of Marion B. Fletcher American Legion Post 136. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel with Rev. Delbert Icenogle officiating. Burial was in Monmouth Cemetery.
