Chet Esther

Chet Esther Sr., 79, of Rushville died at 3:25 a.m. Monday, July 24, 1995, at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born April 1, 1916 in Grant, Mich., a son of Chester and Johannah Oom Esther. He married Nancy Young Curry on Aug. 29, 1956 in Shelbyville. She died April 28, 1987. He then married Betty A. Bates Stambaugh on Nov. 24, 1990 in Mt. Sterling. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Chet Esther Jr. of Beardstown, Joe Esther of Rushville, and Neil Esther of Algoma, Wis.; one daughter, Sally McClelland of Kaukauna, Wis.; one stepson, Joe Stambaugh of Astoria; one brother, Bernard Esther of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one sister, Nellie Moore of Sparta, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim and Albert.

He was a member of Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007 and attended the Browning United Methodist Church. He worked for International Harvester for over 20 years and then farmed until his retirement in 1992.

Graveside funeral services were held this morning at the Rushville City Cemetery with David Haney officiating. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to Culbertson Memorial Hospital.
