T. W. Everitt Dies, Rites To Be Friday

Thomas W. Everitt, 89, an Astoria area resident for most of his life, died early Tuesday morning in the Westfall Nursing home at Prairie City where he had been residing for the past two years.

Born on Feb. 4, 1871 in Prairie City, a son of John and Eliza Hillard Everitt, he was married on June 17, 1903, in Spencer, Iowa, to Loula Purdy, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clarence VanderHamm of Cuba, and Miss Helen Everitt of Pekin, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Everitt was a member of the Bushnell Presbyterian church, a 50-year member of Astoria Lodge AF & AM, and past master of that Lodge, a 50-year member of Astoria Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and past patron of that order. He was a charter member of the Bushnell Rotary Club and Astoria Kiwanis Club. He served as supervisor of Astoria township for 12 years. He was a former superintendent of Bushnell and Astoria schools, and had been a teacher in LaHarpe, Biggsville, Bardolph and Mendon.

Funeral rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Methodist church in Cuba with burial in the Astoria cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hukill Funeral Chapel in Cuba after 5 p.m. today.
