Theodore Deming Jr.Theodore R. Deming Jr., 86, of Smithfield died Feb. 22, 2023, at his home.

He was born July 17, 1936, in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of Theodore R. and Ruth McMillan Deming Sr. He married Mariluan White on Sept. 9, 1984, in Maple Valley, Wash. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Martin Royal Deming of Kent, Wash., Michael Frederick Deming of Spokane, Wash., David James Deming of Olympia, Wash., and Kenneth Ellis (and Colleen) Waggoner of Slaten, Texas; one daughter, Elizabeth (and Ryan) Eaton of Spanway, Wash.; one brother, Douglas (and Patti) Deming of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Dorothy Manhardt of Hamburg, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.

He was a private pilot and an entrepreneur. He proudly served in United States Air Force from 1955-64 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol with a rank of Major. In this role, he taught youth to be adults, responsible, respectful and ready for life. He was an honored soldier both in the military and in life.

He was an Elder and member of Berean Christian Church in Ipava. He also was a member of the Ipava Masonic Lodge.

Services were held Monday at Berean Christian Church in Ipava with Pastor Doug Gorman officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery. Masonic services were held at the cemetery, along with full military rites by the Ipava American Legion and Scott Air Base Honor Guard. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
