Lawrence DrennenLawrence Clifton “Larry” Drennen, 79, of Rushville died at 7:20 p.m. July 29, 2021, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 7, 1942, in Beckley, W. Va., a son of Camden Leo and Irene Martin Drennen. He first married Sondra Head, then later married Delores Briggs on Feb. 14, 1992, in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are five children, Steve Drennen of Vermont, Brian Drennen of Boonville, Mo., Sharrie (and Dale) Peterman of Rushville, Ronda (and Bob) Carlin of Salem, Mo., and Lisa (and Frankie) Kincaid of Springfield; one brother, Denver (and Sandra) Drennen of Brocton, N.Y.; and one sister, Linda Smith of Beckley, W. Va.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Harry Harrah; one sister, Doris Winston; and one brother, Elmer Clinton Drennen.

He attended school in Beckley, W. Va. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving from 1961-64. He then moved to Illinois to work at Western Electric. He later went to Illinois State Police Academy, graduating in 1968. He was an Illinois State Trooper for many years, serving in District 14 in Macomb until it was divided into districts A and B. He then worked for District 20 in Pittsfield until retiring on Feb. 1, 1993. He was active in the Schuyler Shooters Club and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a former Schuyler County Deputy Coroner. He was a member of the Rushville Flying Club and was a pilot for the Illinois State Police Department. He also was a member of FOP Trooper Lodge #41.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Bill Rucker officiating. Burial followed in Palm Cemetery with military honors by Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and a U.S. Army Honors Detail.
