Clara DemottClara G. Demott, 84, of Norris died at 12:45 a.m. Sept. 11, 2008, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born Dec. 3, 1923, in Newark, N.J., a daughter of Charles and Elsie Hetzel Farley. She married Russell Demott on Feb. 16, 1945, in New Jersey. He died in 1986.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Bubb; three brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are two sons, Gary (and Ruth) Demott of Vermont and Wayne Demott of Canton; one brother, Neil (and Bunny) Farley of Willow Grove, Pa.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She served as a U.S. Navy Wave during World War II in Washington, D.C.

She worked at Bybee’s Grocery Store in Vermont, then worked at Joe’s Place as a bookkeeper from 1987 until she retired in 2004.

She was a member of Norris United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #26 and its auxiliary.

Services were held Monday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton with Rev. Rick Atchley officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery.
