Sylva DoolinRev. Sylva A. Doolin, 90, of Browning died Friday, May 7, 2004, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 3, 1913, in Selvin, Ind., a daughter of James Oliver and Emma Cordilla Thiry Bolin. She married Marvin Doolin on July 15, 1939, in St. Louis. He died in 1972.

She also was preceded in death by one infant son, John; one infant brother; and four sisters.

Surviving are three sons, Marvin Jr. (and Joanne) and Daniel, both of Browning, and Roy (and Linda) of Hardin, Texas; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She took correspondence courses from Illinois State University in Normal and attended Glad Tidings Bible Institute in California from 1935 to 1937. In 1947, she was ordained in the Assembly of God Church and began her 65 years of ministry within the church.

She did evangelistic work within 30 of the 50 United States. The first church she ministered with was Carrollton Assembly of God, and she also ministered in churches in Jerseyville, Renault, Olney and Browning.

She also led the Sunday service at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center each week until retiring from preaching on June 8, 2003.

She received a diploma in Christian magazine writing from the Christian Writers Institute and had written numerous articles for Christian publications.

She was active within Browning Senior Citizens and Astoria Assembly of God, where she taught Sunday school.

Services were held Tuesday at Astoria Assembly of God. Burial was in Beardstown City Cemetery. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Astoria Assembly of God or Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice.
