Mary Alice DeFord, 80, of Canton, formerly of Astoria, died at 8:23 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2001, at Heartland Health Care Center in Canton.
She was born Jan. 14, 1921, in Schuyler County, the daughter of Benjamin and Amy Frances Butler Skiles. She married Marshall Mummert on April 1, 1939, in Mount Sterling. He died Nov. 24, 1989.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Mummert, and one brother, Butler Skiles.
She later married Chellis L. DeFord on Oct. 2, 1992, in Canton. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Larry (and Blanche) Mummert of Astoria; one daughter, Ginger (and Raymond) Masten of Martinez, Calif.; one stepson, David (and Coleen) DeFord of Chillicothe; one stepdaughter, Pat (and Ted) Ekle of Springfield; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
She was a member of the Sweet Adelines.
She was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church, Sheldons Grove United Methodist Church and Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton.
Services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Cleveland Masten officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery.
