Thomas W. DeVore, 50, of Beardstown, died at 2:55 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 1996, at the St. John’s Hospital North facility in Springfield.

He was born Sept. 18, 1946, in Rosiclare, the son of Richard and Shirley Wiant DeVore. He married Kay Miller Oct. 5, 1984 in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are his parents of Springfield; one son, Curtis DeVore of Beardstown; two daughters, Angela Sellers of Thomasville, N.C. and Tommi Jo DeVore of Beardstown; one step-daughter, Brandy Miller of Browning; three sisters, Lana Young of Auburn, Marla DeVore of Springfield, and Patrice Adams of Miami, Fla.; three grandchildren, Thomas Godbolt of Highpoint, N.C., Gregory and Darrell Sellers, both of Thomasville, N.C.

Tom graduated in 1964 from Glenwood High School in Chatham. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1967 during the Vietnam War. He attended the First Christian Church in Beardstown, was past president of the Tri County Woodworkers Club, the Exalted Ruler of the Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007, and owned and operated Tom’s Frames and Things in Beardstown.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Beardstown with Rev. David Hastings and Mike Courson officiating. Burial was in the Wood Wreath Cemetery at the Island Grove Methodist Church near New Berlin.

Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Elks Crippled Children’s Fund.
