Paul E. Davis, 70, of rural Mount Sterling, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

He was born April 12, 1926, in Clermont, Ind., a son of William and Williamette Wilkerson Davis. He married Vera Hart on April 12, 1949, in Scott County. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Edward Davis of Rushville; one daughter, Mrs. Allen (Helen) Sours of Browning; two brothers, Ruben Davis of Mount Sterling and LeRoy Davis of Milan; one sister, Anna Mae Garner of Mount Sterling; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

One son, Charley Davis, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.

He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was of the Protestant faith. A former member of Mount Sterling American Legion Post 374, he was a Korean War Army veteran, serving with the 18th Engineer and Combat Battalion. He attained the rank of corporal.

Funeral services were held Monday at Hufnagel Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Kruzan officiating. Military services were conducted by his American Legion post. Burial was in Hersman Cemetery in Hersman.

Memorials may be made to Meredosia Rescue Squad or to Brown County Ambulance Service.
