Willard DeWees Of Havana Dies

Willard DeWees, 67, of 227 S. McKinley, Havana, died at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, Apr. 22, 1980, in Mason District Hospital in Havana.

He had worked for Illinois Power Co. and served as a Scoutmaster seven years. He served as an executive advisor for the Boy Scout movement three years, and was a member of First Baptist Church. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge 134 in Cleveland, Tenn.

Born May 6, 1912, in Macon County, N.C., a son of T. D. and Nannie Wilson DeWees, he married Mary Irene Gilliland Aug. 4, 1935, in Cleveland, Tenn. She died April 30, 1974.

Surviving are three sons, Walter Don and George, both of Astoria, and David of Havana; one sister, Mrs. Christine Campbell of Knoxville; three half-sisters, Mrs. Kate Berning and Mrs. Vivian Overin, both of Santa Monica, Calif., and Mrs. Ulene Cader of Salvadore, Brazil; five half-brothers, Ray and John DeWees, both of Cleveland, Tenn., Major Harry DeWees of Fayetteville, N.C., and Corbin and Clinton Newell of Jonesboro, Tenn.

One son preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon in the First Baptist Church in Cleveland, Tenn., with burial in Fort Hill Cemetery there. Local arrangements were made by Hurley Funeral Home.
