Former Astoria Man Dies

IPAVA — Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in Perry, Ia., for Joshua Derry in the Brook Foutch Chapel with Rev. Richard Anthens officiating, pastor of the First Christian church.

Mr. Derry was born in Astoria twp., the youngest son of Jacob and Rachael Clark Derry, on Feb. 28, 1885, and passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1960.

He married Vada Travis of Astoria, who preceded him in death. To this union two daughters were born, Mrs. Lavonne Walker, Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. Freida Rankin of Perry, Iowa. Other survivors are two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Samuells of Des Moines, Ia., and Mrs. Alice Sowers of Ipava.

Mr. Derry was the youngest son of 12 children. Two sisters are left of this family. He was born and raised in the Astoria community, leaving Illinois after his marriage. Services were held Friday afternoon. Burial was in the Violet Hill cemetery.
