2 Beardstown Women Die In Auto Crash

Mrs. Bertha Self, 74, Beardstown was fatally injured in an automobile accident which occurred about 10 o’clock Wednesday forenoon one mile east of Frederick.

She accompanied Mr. and Mrs. William Dowler, also of Beardstown who were quite seriously injured. They were taken to the Schmitt Memorial hospital, Beardstown. Mrs. Dowler, 71, died of her injuries Sunday morning. Her injuries included a broken right arm, injured shoulder and back, cuts and bruises, and shock.

Mr. Dowler, a retired railroad employee, suffered considerable loss of blood from numerous cuts about his head, neck, hands, arms and legs. He also suffered slight concussion and multiple bruises.

The 1940 Buick sedan was completely wrecked when the car crashed into a concrete culvert near Frederick.
